Hasbro’s G.I. Joe toy line began in 1964, quickly sparking spin-offs and side projects, including three live-action G.I. Joe movies, animated television shows and films, and plenty of action figures. Unbeknownst to some fans, G.I. Joe’s counterpart, Action Man, also possesses a rich backstory, with multiple stories centered on the character.
Multiple Action Man comic series have debuted since 1995, but one of the most popular was a miniseries created by IDW Publishing in 2016, chronicling a British secret agent’s adventures. A new release will allow lovers of the franchise to finally revisit this thrilling release years later.

Panini Comics’ Action Man series features a whopping one hundred and thirty-eight issues, a true testament to the positive reception the action-packed tales received. In June 2016, IDW Publishing rebooted the beloved story in a four-part miniseries, which ran through September of that same year. The comic features writing by John Barber and art by Paolo Villanelli.
Fans can pick up a copy of IDW Publishing’s new release, Action Man TP Vol 01, which compiles all four volumes of the original miniseries. Not only that, but the special edition also includes an exclusive one-shot, released by IDW Publishing in October 2016 for the first time.

The description for Action Man TP Vol 01 hints at the life-or-death missions present within the pages of the comic, reading:
He’s the world’s greatest special agent… until he dies saving the planet, with all the world’s eyes on him. Now his young protégé has to step into the role—whether he’s ready or not! Collects issues #1–4 and the Revolution: Action Man one-shot.
Action Man, often known as the British counterpart of G.I. Joe, is just as brave, resilient, and rugged as his parallel, using his strength to protect the innocent on top-secret quests. In addition to the miniseries, the collection includes the Revolution: Action Man one-shot alongside the other four issues. Revolution crosses over with Transformers, another revered Hasbro franchise, as Action Man works to save Kup from the base where he is being held.
The Action Man one-shot is not the only time G.I. Joe has teamed up with Transformers in comic form, as Marvel Comics released a G.I. Joe and the Transformers miniseries in 1987. Although almost a decade has passed since IDW Publishing’s Action Man miniseries first hit shelves, the adrenaline-packed story will resonate with readers just as much today, and this special edition is the best way to read it all in order.
Action Man TP Vol 01 is now available for purchase.
