Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux have received their next-generation PC update, adding modern upscaling and visual improvements. Players whose computers cannot meet the new requirements can return to a legacy version through Steam or GOG.

The official patch notes list DLSS, FSR and 4A TSR support, uncapped frame rates, screen-space global illumination and higher-detail geometry and textures. Performance will still depend on the hardware running each game.
The changes include controller support and fixes for broken checkpoints
The update adds spatial audio, DualSense adaptive triggers and Xbox controller impulse triggers. It also addresses problems with modern displays, mouse sensitivity and controller detection.

Several fixes target progression and saves. The games should no longer create checkpoints with too little gas-mask filter time remaining, which could trap players in a suffocation loop. The patch also fixes Steam Cloud uploads and several crashes or freezes during loading.
A follow-up PC hotfix addresses higher resolutions not being detected correctly and the Steam Overlay disappearing. It also fixes a Deep Silver account reward, Epic Games Store achievements and Ukrainian text rendering.

Older PCs can use legacy branches while Microsoft Store saves need care
The publisher provides metro_2033_redux_legacy and metro_last_light_redux_legacy branches on Steam and GOG for computers that do not meet the upgraded requirements.
There is a separate warning for the Microsoft Store versions: existing saves do not carry over, and a new game is recommended. Chapter select is unlocked so players can resume at a chosen chapter with default equipment.
That save limitation is specifically labelled for Microsoft Store. It should not be presented as a blanket warning that every Steam or GOG player will lose progress.
