NORTHERN MICHIGAN., (WPBN/WGTU) — AAA says that the busiest time of year for vehicle deer crashes runs from October through December.
According to Michigan Traffic Crash Facts, in 2025, over 58,000 vehicle deer-related crashes and 13 fatalities were reported in the state.
AAA said that deer are more active from October through December because it’s breeding season.
“If a deer suddenly appears in your path, your safest response is to brake firmly and maintain control of the vehicle,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA Auto Club Group. “Many of the most severe crashes occur when drivers swerve and strike another vehicle or a roadside object.”
Woodland said that deer are also more active during dawn and dusk. If you see one deer, it is likely more are close by.
