Check your medicine cabinet. Vitality Works Inc. of Albuquerque, N.M., is recalling its ashwagandha capsules because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recalled product is packaged in white plastic bottles and includes the following info:
Product: 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha, 120 count
UPC: 9948252099
Lot number: 2025-26227
Expiration date: 10/13/2028
The lot number and expiration date are both printed on the bottom of the bottle. The recalled product was available for purchase from November 24, 2025, through October 20, 2026, both online through Amazon and at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.
The potential contamination was identified through routine sampling of a single retail unit. No illnesses have been reported so far.
According to the FDA, Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, an infection can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
If you purchased the recalled product, do not consume it. Discard the product. According to the FDA notice, you should not return the supplements to the store, but refunds are available at any Whole Foods. For questions, contact Vitality Works Inc. at 505-268-9950, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT.
