The day before their 34th wedding anniversary, Steven Spielberg and his wife, former actress Kate Capshaw, made a rare red carpet appearance together at the London Film Festival screening of the film Hamnet, which Spielberg helped produce.

The two arrived on the red carpet on Oct. 11 looking chic and happy, posing for some photos together. Spielberg donned a suave plaid suit jacket and pants, while Capshaw went for a slightly more edgy look. She wore a black jacket and a voluminous black layered skirt, with a small black purse and lace-up boots. Her hair was styled in bold curls.

This is a rare appearance for Capshaw, who only occasionally attends industry events with Spielberg. She was last photographed at an event in late March when she went to the opening night of the Broadway musical Operation Mincemeat.

Capshaw and Spielberg Celebrated the Release of Hamnet

The celebrity couple enjoyed a special night out with many other familiar faces in the industry. As expected, Hamnet’s director, Chloé Zhao, and the two stars, Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, were at the premiere, as well as Emily Watson, who also appears in the film. Barry Keoghan and Andrew Scott, neither of whom star in the new movie, were at the event in support as well.

Hamnet imagines how William Shakespeare and his wife, Anne Hathaway, dealt with the death of their son, Hamnet, at the age of 11, and how it possibly inspired the legendary playwright to pen his critically acclaimed play Hamlet.

Spielberg’s Wife Stays Out of the Spotlight Since Retiring From Acting

At the start of her career, Capshaw’s first role was in the soap opera The Edge of Night. She then got her big break when she was cast as the female lead in the second Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, co-starring Harrison Ford and directed by Spielberg.

Spielberg and Capshaw met on the film and soon started a romance, leading to their marriage in 1991. After the action film, Capshaw continued to act for a time, with memorable roles in movies like Just Cause, Black Rain, and The Love Letter. Capshaw eventually decided to retire from acting, with her last role in 2002 in the film Due East.

In the late 2000s, Capshaw began pursuing an education and career in fine arts, and she now tends to paint meaningful portraits with a purpose.
