Aubrey Plaza and Amy Poehler teamed up for a Hunting Wives parody during the Oct. 11 episode of Saturday Night Live

The longtime friends costarred on Parks and Recreation from 2009 to 2015

The pair previously reprised their Parks and Rec characters for SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment in January 2023

Aubrey Plaza and Amy Poehler are a long way from Pawnee, Indiana.

The former Parks and Recreation costars joined forces during the Oct. 11 episode of Saturday Night Live for a pre-recorded parody of The Hunting Wives, which the sketch’s narrator deemed a “lesbian, horny Republican drama.”

The satirical season 2 trailer begins with cast member Chloe Fineman returning from prison as the show’s main character, Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow). The camera then pans over to Poehler, 54, who is dressed as socialite Margo Banks (Malin Akerman) before pulling down her dress to flash her breasts. “Well, look what the cat dragged in,” she says.

Following several clips that rehash the show’s winding plot and a collection of fake reviews from various media outlets, the narrator introduces a “new girl” who would be joining the group.

“Hey ladies. I’m new here, I just moved from California,” Plaza, 41, says over the audience’s screams as they reacted to her surprise cameo. Fineman’s Sophie then seductively teaches the newcomer how to make mimosas before Poehler’s Margo and the rest of the dysfunctional friend group join in on the action.

But when Plaza’s character suddenly reveals that she has a girlfriend instead of a boyfriend, all the wives shuffle away and pull out their hunting rifles while screaming, “Lesbian!”

While hosting SNL for the first time in January 2023, Plaza collaborated with her former costar once again on Lorne Michaels‘ sketch comedy show. And while she stepped back into the role of Parks and Recreation’s April Ludgate, Poehler reprised her role of Leslie Knope during the show’s “Weekend Update” segment.

Referencing the years in which she used to co-host Weekend Update, Poehler quipped to Colin Jost at the time, “I used to watch this when Seth Meyers did it by himself with no one else.”

More recently, Plaza opened about her grief journey following the death of her husband, Jeff Baena, during an appearance on the Aug. 19 episode of Poehler’s Good Hang podcast.

“On behalf of all the people who feel like they know you, and the people who do know you, how are you feeling today?” Poehler asked her longtime friend, to which Plaza responded, “Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you.”

“Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning,” Plaza continued. “I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”
