TORONTO — Strength in base metal and energy stocks helped lift Canada’s main stock index in late-morning trading, while U.S. markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 81.67 points at 29,144.68.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 310.99 points at 45,400.35. The S&P 500 index was up 22.36 points at 6,534.97, while the Nasdaq composite was up 80.81 points at 21,960.30.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.22 cents US compared with 72.29 cents US on Tuesday.
The October crude oil contract was up 65 cents US at US$63.28 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$1.30 at US$3,683.50 an ounce.
