Britney Spears accuses her ex-husband Kevin Federline of “gaslighting” her in lengthy Instagram post.
Kevin is currently promoting his memoir, You Thought You Knew.
Britney also defended her relationship with their two boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
“Hush, just stop.” This is the opening line to Britney Spears’ hit 2000 song “Stronger.” It’s also the sentiment behind Britney’s response to Kevin Federline’s memoir, You Thought You Knew. In a lengthy post on social media, Britney accused Kevin (to whom she was married from 2004 to 2007) of “gaslighting” her with his new book, saying she’s had “enough.”
Kevin’s memoir doesn’t hit shelves until October 21, but excerpts published this week have accused Britney of erratic behavior and included an allegation that she once watched their two sons sleep—with a knife in her hand. On Tuesday, following the first round of reports on the book, Britney’s representative released a statement to People, saying in part, “With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.”
Britney herself spoke out on Wednesday in a post shared to Twitter and Instagram, accusing him of souring her relationship with their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

“The constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting,” she wrote. “I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life.”
Britney appears to have been responding to Kevin’s recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, in which he said that their sons were “screaming for a life with” their mother, though she did not specifically mention the interview. She continued, “Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me.”
The singer went on to say that she has rarely seen her sons in the last five years, with “one son only seeing me for 45 minutes and the other with only 4 visits.” And that while she hoped they would take initiative to reach out and build a relationship with her, she wrote, “I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available.” She later added that she “will always love them.”

Elsewhere in her statement, Britney appeared to call out her ex husband, accusing him of lying for about her for money. “Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here,” she wrote. And while she insisted that she has tried to “live a sacred and private life” since the end of her conservatorship, she felt she had to speak out. “I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
