Severn House, an imprint of Canongate, has appointed Sarah Delmege as senior commissioning editor and promoted Laurie Johnson to editorial director. Delmege will move to the press on 20th October from Sweet Cherry Publishing

Delmege said: “I am absolutely thrilled and beyond excited to join Severn House. I’ve long been a fan – and a reader – of their incredible list of authors. I cannot wait to become part of their amazingly talented, creative and passionate team.”

Former senior commissioning editor Johnson joined Severn House a year ago, and since then has been building her list with “new and exciting acquisitions that push the boundaries for Severn House”.

Johnson added: “I’m delighted to take the helm of the editorial list. It’s such an exciting time for Severn House and I love being a part of the development as we shape its future. I’m pleased to welcome Sarah to our wonderful team and I’m looking forward to delivering more fabulous books by our exceptional authors.”

Severn House began as an independent publisher re-releasing out-of-print titles to the US and UK library markets, and celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. It now publishes new works from a list of genre fiction authors such as Simon Brett, Paul Doherty and Cynthia Harrod-Eagles, as well as Adam Oyebanji, Esme Addison and Maria Dong.

Severn House publisher Joanne Grant said: “Sarah has a wealth of experience and genuine passion for genre fiction. Combined with Laurie’s editorial vision and expertise, I couldn’t be more excited for the future of Severn House.”
