TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index fell in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the base metals sector, while U.S. stock markets were also in the red.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 27.01 points at 29,861.81.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 188.04 points at 46,736.70. The S&P 500 index was down 36.55 points at 6,698.80, while the Nasdaq composite was down 222.70 points at 22,730.97.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.49 cents US compared with 71.32 cents US on Tuesday.
The December crude oil contract was up US$1.28 at US$58.52 per barrel.
The December gold contract was down US$57.30 at US$4,051.80 an ounce.
