SPAR Austria has reopened the INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Hallein after 14 months of construction and an investment of €19 million. The modernised store now offers 3,500m² of retail space and around 50,000 products. It is easily accessible and features a contemporary design with a strong focus on sustainable technology.

Fresh food and top-quality service

The hypermarket offers a fresh and welcoming shopping experience. A brand-new INTERSPAR bakery welcomes customers with freshly baked bread and pastries. One of the highlights is the vibrant fruit and vegetable marketplace located right at the entrance. Nearby, the modernised INTERSPAR restaurant offers a large selection of hot meals to take away.

With transparent glass fronts, warm materials, and lots of daylight, the entrance area has been transformed into a place where fresh food and friendly service stand out.

The hypermarket employs 115 team members, with 13 more working in the INTERSPAR restaurant. Many of them are from the local area, helping to build trust and a sense of community. Ongoing training and development ensure that customers receive top-quality service.

The most extensive range in the region

The INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Hallein offers the most extensive product range in the region, with around 50,000 items, including 20,000 food products and 30,000 non-food items. A special focus is placed on regional delicacies, with about 270 products sourced from over 100 local suppliers. These products are part of the INTERSPAR initiative “Von dahoam das Beste!” (The best from home!) marked with a heart-shaped apple symbol, celebrating the region’s diversity. At the same time, the store invites customers to enjoy convenient one-stop shopping across a wide variety of product categories.

Future-proof and convenient

All new and modernised INTERSPAR hypermarkets are designed to be sustainable and energy efficient. In Hallein, this includes advanced building systems that reduce energy consumption, featuring LED lighting, heat recovery from refrigeration units, and modern refrigerated shelves. Offers can be updated instantly thanks to 30,000 digitally controlled, multi-coloured price displays, which also help reduce employee workload. The hypermarket features six e-charging stations and 400 parking spaces, with 297 located in the modernised underground car park.

Enjoyable restaurant experience

The INTERSPAR restaurant has become a modern meeting place, spanning 382m² and featuring 95 indoor seats, as well as a new terrace offering 32 outdoor seats. It offers freshly prepared meals that change daily, along with regional specialities. The restaurant uses 100% Austrian milk and meat, and places great importance on seasonal ingredients.

INTERSPAR Austria Managing Director, Johannes Holzleitner, said: “Our new INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Hallein is the ideal combination of shopping and gastronomy, with an open design, a sustainable concept and consistent focus on the needs of our customers.”
