Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has unveiled the latest duo of films to benefit from its Ultimate Collector’s Edition 4K Blu-ray programme – and to say they’re a mixed bag would be the understatement of all understatements. Leading the way is Brian De Palma’s classic gangster movie Scarface, while coming in a pretty distant second is 2023’s underwhelming adaptation of popular mobile game, Five Nights At Freddy’s.

Both of these new Ultimate Collector’s Edition titles are set to go on sale exclusively on amazon.com from November 11, with the discs contained inside brand new 4K Steelbook containers that will themselves be part of strikingly designed collectible outer boxes featuring numbered certificates of authenticity. Each film will also ship with an ‘IconArt’ metal poster and magnetic wall mount.

Getting into more specific information on each title, let’s start with the undoubted star of Universal’s latest show, the new Scarface 4K Blu-ray package.

The 4K Blu-ray disc will be provided alongside an HD Blu-ray and a digital code. The 4K high dynamic range transfer will be presented on a BD100 4K BD disc rather than the BD66 alternative, which is definitely the right choice (to limit the potential for compression artefacts) for a film with a running time of almost three hours. The video will be presented in the film’s original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and will be accompanied by a DTS:X audio mix, while extra features provided alongside the film will be as follows:

Scarface: 35th Anniversary ReunionThe Scarface Phenomenon documentaryThe World of Tony Montana documentaryThe Rebirth featuretteThe Acting featuretteThe Creating featuretteA selection of deleted scenesSCARFACE: The TV VersionThe Making of Scarface: The Video Game featurette

‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ is getting an Ultimate Collector’s Edition 4K BD release too. But will many movie fans be willing to drop $75 on this one?

Five Nights At Freddy’s, meanwhile, will be presented in 4K HDR on a 66GB disc, which should be big enough to handle the film’s one hour and 50 minute running time. The picture will appear in a 2.00:1 aspect ratio accompanied by a Dolby Atmos English sound mix, and the 4K disc will again be joined in the premium package by an HD Blu-ray and a digital streaming code.

While Universal has lavished as much presentational effort on the Ultimate Collector’s Edition packaging for Five Nights At Freddy’s as it has Scarface, the Jason Blum-produced film isn’t accompanied by nearly as many bonus features. All you get is featurette on the process of turning the famously minimalistic game into a film, another featurette on the film’s ‘killer animatronics’, and a final featurette on turning Five Nights At Freddy’s into a living, breathing, three-dimensional experience.

Both Universal Pictures Home Entertainment films are available for pre-order now for $74.99 each, so if they scratch your physical media itch you’d probably better get on with ordering them sooner rather than later.
