Comedy movies are very successful because they give audiences the chance to slip into a fictional world and finally enjoy some laughs. Whether it’s an awesome ensemble cast or a sidesplitting premise, these movies thrive at the box office and often give audiences a ton of quotable lines. So, even though comedies may not leave audiences with a moral message, they still achieve their aim of entertaining audiences.
But these movies are not made without obstacles. Outtakes are a common extra that allow audiences to see all of the mishaps, goofs, and mispronounced lines that plagued these long shoots. Yet for a lot of people, bloopers are not a hindrance because they are often funnier than the actual film.
Two Comedy Legends Struggle to Hold Together in Step Brothers
First released in 2008, Step Brothers remains a comedy gem for a lot of audiences. The film revolves around two middle-aged men who are forced to live under the same roof after their parents get hitched. Eventually, these men become best buddies, but that only causes more grief for their parents because they essentially regress into children again. Complete with crude gags, physical humor, and tons of punchlines, this movie shows Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly at their absolute best.
The outtakes for this film are just as immature as fans would expect. Both comedians can’t help but giggle at the constant fart jokes and references to boinking. So, even though it seems like these actors are playing these roles completely straight, they definitely cracked a few smiles during filming.
Anchorman Was Heavily Improvised With Some Shockingly Funny Scenes

Anchorman introduces audiences to Ron Burgundy, a satirical ’70s TV host who immediately clashes with his new female co-host. Admittedly, this film isn’t to everyone’s taste, but fans of niche satires have commended this movie for its tongue-in-cheek gags and double entendres. When the film was released in 2004, it was met with mixed reviews, but a bonus DVD called Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie showcased just how much fun the cast had making this cult classic.
Since this film is blessed with the likes of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, and Jack Black, it comes as no surprise that a lot of the film’s funniest scenes are improvised. Thus, the outtakes highlight Jack Black’s multiple attempts to throw a dog off a bridge, a scene that really highlights the actor’s talent for physical humor. As such, even though Anchorman is a tad divisive in the comedy world, the outtakes show just how much work was put into making this strange flick.
Superbad Is Teeming With Awkward Outtakes

Superbad stands out in the comedy industry because it allowed incredible actors like Jonah Hill and Emma Stone to finally get a chance in the spotlight. The film was inspired by Seth Rogen’s high school experience and focuses on two unpopular students who attempt to throw an incredible party. But after failing to get adequate fake IDs and becoming involved in a drug ring, the lads realize that their plans are quickly falling apart.
The best thing about the Superbad outtakes is that they show just how funny the actors are. Even when Christopher Mintz-Plasse is being tormented by a bee, his co-stars still manage to make a joke about the situation. So, even though things went wrong in certain places, these incredible comedians were determined to keep the punchlines flowing.
Hot Fuzz Has Some Very Silly Bloopers

Out of the famous Corentto Trilogy, Hot Fuzz remains a fan-favorite mostly because of its straight humor. Even with its ridiculous premise, this film is jam-packed with action sequences that help the film feel far more exciting than a standard comedy. But these sequences were quite difficult to film, especially since the leading men struggled to keep a straight face.
Those who have seen the outtakes for Hot Fuzz will know that there is a scene where Nicholas Angel tries to sneak up on a shoplifter. This moment required Simon Pegg to effortlessly slide across a supermarket floor, but he would often go too far and crash into the shelving unit. Thus, even though he is trying to offer a really sincere performance, it’s evident that he is preparing to fall over.
A Prominent Voice Actor Is Distracted by His Off-Color Lines in Spy

Spy could be seen as a bit of an underrated hit, but it is lucky enough to have a ton of star power. Featuring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham, the film focuses on a quirky secret agent named Susan Cooper who is on a mission to locate a stolen nuclear device. As expected, this film is loaded with great lines, which only work to make this keen parody an even bigger success.
While it’s understandable that a lot of actors would struggle to hold their tongue during these hilarious deliveries, Peter Serafinowicz really found it hard to deliver his expletive-filled lines during this film. The reason this is so funny is that Serafinowicz is best known for voicing Darth Maul, so fans would assume that he would have experience playing straight. However, seeing him blush over these lines just adds another layer of humor to this amazing film.
A Comedy Legend Veers off Script in Liar Liar
Liar Liar – Fletcher (Jim Carrey) wins his case

Liar Liar focuses on a deceitful lawyer named Fletcher Reede, whose life is turned upside-down when his son’s wish for him to tell the truth comes true. Just like any other Jim Carrey flick, this ’90s classic allows the actor to run wild, showcasing all of his signature physical humor. But even one of the funniest men in the world seems to mess up his lines occasionally.
In the blooper reel for Liar Liar, there is an entire scene where Carrey goes off script. At one moment, he’s crumpling up pieces of paper to make an origami goose, and at the next, he’s breaking out his best dance moves. Of course, this has the crew in stitches, prompting him to improve the courtroom scene even more.
One Actress Has Her Co-stars in Fits of Giggles in Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids has established itself as a modern icon, proving that female-led ensemble casts are integral to the development of the comedy industry. The movie introduced audiences to the likes of Rebel Wilson and Ellie Kemper, giving fans the chance to see these female comedians in an entirely new light. So, in its attempt to showcase a very relatable experience, Bridesmaids has offered fans one of the best comedies ever made.
However, the blooper reel places a lot of focus on one actress in particular: Melissa McCarthy. Her character, Megan Price, is widely remembered for her foul mouth and uncouth manners. Thus, every time McCarthy tried to bring Price’s iconic personality to life, the rest of the cast couldn’t hold it together, showcasing why she is one of the best comedic actresses of her generation.
Rush Hour 3 Features Tons of Death-Defying Stunts

Out of all the Rush Hour movies, Rush Hour 3 lacks the most humor. Unfortunately, the lines are stagnant, and the plot is painfully repetitive, weakening the franchise quite a bit. But the reason this film is featured on this list is that the bloopers show just how much chemistry Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have. The outtake reels are full of mispronounced lines and lightning-fast quips, proving that although this film isn’t the greatest, so much effort was put into making it funny.
However, the outtake that stands out the most is when a knife narrowly misses Jackie Chan while he is performing one of his stunts. While this may not seem funny, after the crew gets over the initial shock, they can help but burst out in awkward giggles. Again, this just shows how committed Chan was to this unique role.
A Bout of Physical Humor Pushes an Actor Over the Edge in Just Friends
Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart in Just Friends

Just Friends is famous for shoving Ryan Reynolds in an awful fat suit, but it is also known for offering one of the best romance plots of the 21st century. The story follows Chris, a former obese man who tries to win over his high school sweetheart years after they drifted apart. While Reynolds and Amy Smart are key parts of this film, Just Friends also features Anna Faris as an emerging pop singer.
The blooper reel features tons of outtakes where Faris is covered in toothpaste and Reynolds just can’t stop himself from cracking up. There’s also a great outtake where Smart drops a phone into a huge bowl of cake batter, resulting in the entire set just losing it. Thus, even though this film has dated quite a bit since it was released in 2005, the outtakes still hold up.
We’re the Millers Is Derailed by a Friends Reference
Image via New Line Cinema
Even for those who have never seen We’re The Millers, they are probably familiar with the scene where the cast sings a rendition of TLC’s “Waterfalls.” While the rest of the family is enjoying the chorus, Kenny Rossmore shocks them by busting out a perfectly executed rap. However, in one of the outtakes, the cast sings “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts. While this may not seem like much, Friends legend Jennifer Aniston was particularly surprised.
While Anniston had no idea that her co-stars were going to launch this prank, the rest of the cast were really anxious to see her reaction. Judging by the blooper reel, the actress really appreciated the references, breaking into a fit of laughter while applauding her peers. So, while “Waterfalls” is a great addition to this film, a lot of fans believe that the Friends theme would have been an even better addition.
