Robyn in concert, Stockholm, Sweden - 27 Oct 2018

If you have ever scream-shouted the lyrics “My style is the bomb didi bom di deng gi deng digi digi” in a dark corner at a gay bar, your time has come. On Sunday, Swedish pop star Robyn posted a link to sign up for her mailing list on her Instagram Stories along with the vague caption, “Keep your eyes open…”

After 24 hours of frenzied speculation, the “Call Your Girlfriend” singer confirmed in an Instagram post accompanied by a photo of a cyborgian eye that she’s dropping a new single, “Dopamine,” on Wednesday. It will be her first new song (not including features) in nearly seven years.

This is actually not the first confirmation we’ve gotten that Robyn was back in the studio. In September, the 46-year-old’s longtime collaborator Klas Åhlund stopped by the Nordmark Pod podcast. According to a translation from Stereogum, Åhlund announced that he’d “just finished a new Robyn album that’s coming out.” “Super exciting!” he added. “Very proud of it.”

While Robyn’s been busy recording features with Charli XCX, SG Lewis, and Jamie xx, she hasn’t dropped any new music of her own since the release of her eighth studio album, Honey, in 2018. We don’t have any hints about the album’s sonic identity just yet, but if I know anything, it’s that Robyn’s music rules the dance floor — and at least one classic scene from Lena Dunham’s Girls. Things are looking bleak, but at least a musical shot of dopamine is on its way.

Stay in touch.
