Colin Farrell will portray a priest in action-thriller film Ordained, based on the upcoming comic book from publisher Bad Idea, sources confirmed to Deadline.

The Batman and The Penguin actor has teamed with the Russo Brothers’ AGBO banner for the adaptation. He will star as Father Roy Craig, who performs last rites on a mob boss. The mob boss survives, and having confessed his crimes to the father, puts gangsters, hitmen and corrupt cops on his trail to silence him for his knowledge.

Father Roy has a violent past that prepares him for the onslaught, though he adheres to the sixth commandment “Thou shall not kill.” John Wick writer Derek Kolstad wrote the script and will produce along with Bad Idea’s Dinesh Shamdasani and Benjamin Simpson.

Joe and Anthony Russo will produce for AGBO Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco. Star Farrell will also produce, along with his sister, Claudine Farrell and their Chapel Place banner.

The comic book, written by Robert Venditti, illustrated by Trevor Hairsine and colored by Dave Stewart, releases Dec. 10.

Coming off The Penguin, for which he was Emmy-nominated, Farrell is expected to reprise the antagonist role in Matt Reeves’ upcoming sequel to The Batman. He recently starred in Netflix’s Ballad of a Small Player and Sony’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside Margot Robbie. He will also reprise his role as film-loving private detective John Sugar in the Apple TV series Sugar for Season 2.
