CHICAGO (WLS) — ABC7 Chicago meteorologist Tracy Butler was Cooking up a Storm Thursday with an iconic Jewish deli that has called Chicago home for decades.

Manny’s, located at 1141 S. Jefferson St. in the South Loop, is a frequent stop for politicians and celebrities.

And it’s also been giving back, dishing up 1,800 free meals during the government shutdown.

Manny’s owner Dan Raskin made their famous noodle kugel Thursday.

Manny’s Famous Noodle Kugel

Serves 8 as a side dish

– 1 1/2 pounds extra wide egg noodles

– 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar

– 6 extra large eggs

– 1 1/2 teaspoons iodized table salt

– 12 oz. cottage cheese, large curd recommended

– 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, melted

– 2 cups sour cream

– 1/2 cup golden raisins (optional)

1. Boil noodles according to package directions and drain well. Let cool.

2. Add in sugar, eggs, salt, cottage cheese, melted butter, sour cream and golden raisins (if using) in a mixing bowl.

3. Coat an 11 x 13 casserole with nonstick cooking spray.

4. Cover with foil and bake in a water bath for 70 minutes. Uncover for the last 20 minutes and serve.
