ABC’s crowd-pleasing crime-drama Will Trent closed out its third season with a bit of a cliffhanger after Angie (Erika Christensen) learned she is pregnant. The show, which aired its Season 3 finale in May 2025, is coming back, but fans will still have to wait several months.
Per ScreenRant, via the New York Times, it’s been confirmed that Will Trent will make its Season 4 debut in January 2026. It had been speculated that the show, which stars Ramón Rodríguez as the titular Will Trent, would be back in early 2026, but the news now narrows that down to January. However, a specific date for the Season 4 premiere is still unknown.
Will Trent, in the sometimes-unstable world of network television, has been able to maintain a bit of consistency as far as its releases. So far, all the show’s three seasons have been released in either January or February, so it seems that the trend will continue with the upcoming fourth season.
ABC’s Will Trent is based on the bestselling books by Karin Slaughter and follows Trent, a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Trent, as a child, was abandoned and “forced to endure a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now that he is in a position to make a difference, Trent is determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was,” reads a summary of the show.
Season 4 has been in production since August 2025, and there has not been a ton of news regarding any new casting or plot developments. One thing that was announced is that actor Kevin Daniels, who plays Detective Franklin Wilks on the show, will be a series regular for Will Trent Season 4. The show, which boasts an 83% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, in addition to Rodríguez and Christensen, also stars Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, and Sonja Sohn.
Scrubs Could Join Will Trent as a Mid-Season Addition to ABC’s Lineup

Things are shaping up at ABC as far as its fall lineup, with Kaitlin Olson’s crime drama, High Potential, set to return on Sept. 16. Additionally, Tim Allen’s sitcom, Shifting Gears, will be back for its second season on Oct. 1 with 13 all-new episodes.
The fall premiere of Shifting Gears and the fact that it’s just 13 episodes, five short of a full 18-episode season order, paves the way for ABC’s highly anticipated Scrubs reboot. The Bill Lawrence-created Scrubs is reportedly set to be a mid-season replacement. If that’s the case, Scrubs could join ABC’s January lineup along with Will Trent Season 4.
The Scrubs revival, which has been dubbed Scrubs Season 10, will feature the cast of the original series, which aired for nine seasons starting in 2001. On tap to return are Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley. Scrubs will likely take over Shifting Gears’ Wednesday time slot when it eventually debuts on ABC.
The first three seasons of Will Trent are streaming on Hulu.
