NORFOLK, Va. — Coastal Carolina continues a month-long road stretch Saturday afternoon when the Chanticleers visit Old Dominion for a 2 p.m. Sun Belt Conference match-up at Chartway Arena.
Coastal (6-6, 0-1) will look to bounce back after opening league play with a 67–49 loss at App State on Thursday. Old Dominion (4-8, 1-0) enters the contest coming off a 77–68 home win over James Madison in its conference opener.
Despite the loss at App State, Coastal continues to rank among the league’s top defensive teams. The Chanticleers lead the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (42.3) and field goal percentage defense (.373) and rank in the top 20 nationally in defensive rebounds per game, total rebounds per game and field goal defense. Coastal has held opponents under 40 percent shooting in eight games this season.
Joshua Beadle, AJ Dancler and Rasheed Jones lead the Coastal offense, combining to average 41.9 points per game — the fourth-highest scoring trio in the Sun Belt. All three rank among the league’s top 20 in scoring. Jones led the Chanticleers with 13 points Thursday,
Old Dominion enters Saturday’s match-up 4–0 at home and shoots 43.1 percent from the floor. The Monarchs are led by KC Shaw (15.5 ppg), Jordan Battle (13.4) and LJ Thomas (12.3). Battle, who spent the 2024–25 season at Coastal, also leads ODU in rebounds (5.7) and steals (18).
Old Dominion holds a 4–2 advantage over Coastal in Sun Belt meetings, though five of the eight all-time match-ups have been decided by four points or fewer. The Monarchs edged the Chanticleers 61–59 in the most recent meeting on Feb. 28 at the HTC Center.
Coastal will conclude its road trip Monday at Saint Joseph’s before returning home Jan. 1 to open the new year against Georgia Southern.
