PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Georgetown University women’s basketball team lost to the Providence College Friars 68-61 in overtime in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 7-4 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST play, while the Friars improve to 8-5 on the year and 1-2 in league action. Â

How it Happened
Georgetown jumped out to a quick lead as junior Khia Miller was active and helped build a six-point lead.
Over the final two minutes of the first, Sabou Gueye took over for Providence as the Friars put together an 11-3 run with nine of the points from Gueye to make it 17-15 after one.
Providence would lead by as much as seven early in the second quarter, but Miller worked with Cristen Carter and Chetanna Nweke to combine for an 18-2 run.
The Friars hit a triple at the buzzer as the Hoyas went into the half leading 35-31.
Eleven Providence points midway through the third gave the Friars the advantage.
The Hoya posts fought on the glass and by finishing down low to knot the contest at 48 after three.
The squads went back and forth throughout the fourth as neither team could gain a significant advantage.
In the final seconds, Providence was up two and missed a pair of free throws when sophomore Destiny Agubata came down with the rebound.
With two seconds left, Brianna Byars sent an inbounds pass to Carter down low who finished at the rim to tie it at 59 and send the contest into overtime.
Providence went on a 7-0 run to open the extra period, and the Hoyas never found an answer eventually falling 68-61.
Of Note
Miller led the way with 13 points, going 9-9 from the charity stripe.
Carter also managed 13 points to go along with a squad-best six rebounds.
The Blue & Gray shot 35.9% (23-64) from the field, and allowed 42.6% (26-61) shooting by Providence.
GU was outrebounded by PC 46-35, and Georgetown forced 25 Friar turnovers on 15 steals.
Gueye led Providence with 23 points and eight rebounds as one of three players in double figures.
This was Georgetown’s second overtime game of the season.
