Communications-services companies rose as traders bet consolidation in the sector would continue.

Conventional media companies are still scrambling for market share in a new content-creation landscape dominated by streaming, according to most analysts. According to research firm Nielsen, streaming represented nearly 47% of TV watch-time in November, beating the combined total for cable, at almost 21%, and broadcast, at about 23%.

Warner Bros. Discovery continued to gain as a bidding war between Paramount Skydance and Netflix looked set to go on.
