George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney have been granted French citizenship, according to AFP.

AFP reported that it had seen an official decree confirming the pair’s new citizenship. The move confirms plans that the double Oscar winner and human rights lawyer had alluded to earlier this month, when George Clooney praised French privacy laws during a radio interview.

Four years back, the Clooneys bought a property on a former wine estate in the South of France. They spend much time there and Amal Clooney is reported to speak fluent French.

Upcoming, George Clooney will appear in Netflix’s highly-anticipated Call My Agent! movie, one of a ream of guest stars coming together for the feature-length reboot.

The Clooneys spend lots of time in Europe – Amal Clooney is British-Lebanese – and they also own properties in Lake Como and the UK.

Speaking to RTL radio earlier this month, George Clooney was quoted as saying of France: “Here, they don’t take photos of kids. There aren’t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That’s number one for us.”

He added that he is “still bad” at French after “400 days of courses.”

Notably, Clooney has just been on the press tour for Netflix’s Jay Kelly, a Noah Baumbach and Emily Mortimer movie in which he plays a famous actor travelling through Europe reflecting on his life choices.
