Visiting has been restricted in all wards in Tullamore hospital due to a spike in people admitted with winter illnesses.

The Midland Regional Hospital says it’s experiencing a high number of people with respiratory viral illness, such as flu and the winter-vomiting bug.

Hospital bosses said: “As a precautionary measure,visiting restrictions have been implemented across all hospital departments to help reduce the spread of the virus within the healthcare setting.

“Visiting is restricted on all wards with immediate effect.

“Compassionate and critical visits in exceptional circumstances only will be accommodated by contacting the Clinical Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge of the relevant ward.

“If visiting due to exceptional circumstances patients can only have 1 visitor for 30 minutes at a time. These measures will be kept under regular review.”
