Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories – The Bad Batch: Rogue Agents #1Star Wars is continuing the adventures of The Bad Batch with an all-new series set during the Clone Wars era. However, this all-new story also features another elite clone squad like we’ve never seen before.

In Dark Horse’s new Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories – The Bad Batch: Rogue Agents #1, this debut issue introduces readers to another team of clones operating as a lone unit during the Clone Wars. However, this new clone squad also holds a secret that’s eventually revealed by the end of this exciting first chapter.

Star Wars’ New Bad Batch Series Debuts Sgt. Cole’s Clone Squad

Sgt. Cole, Hank, Charger, and Rice in The Bad Batch Rogue Agents #1

Rogue Agents #1 provides a dynamic introduction to Sergeant Cole and his fellow squadmates. Cole, appearing to be an ARC Trooper, leads Hank, Rice, and Charger as an elite clone unit that is seemingly a more typical group of Republic clones compared to The Bad Batch and their various genetic modifications.

Initially claiming to share the same mission from Republic High Command, Cole and his men form an uneasy alliance with Clone Force 99 at the start of this new Star Wars series. However, their true colors are eventually discovered by the issue’s end.

Clone Force 99 Just Encountered A Brand-New Squad Of Clone Defectors

Sgt. Cole's Squad Betrays Clone Force 99 in The Bad Batch Rogue Agents

The biggest twist comes when a suspicious Tech uncovers the truth behind Cole’s unit after hacking into Republic files. Rather than being another elite unit of loyal clones, Cole and his men are instead revealed to be defectors, working for the Separatists who are promising a sizable payday for them to retrieve a powerful new device and its creator.

While Star Wars has explored clone deserters before and even a lone defector during the animated Clone Wars series, a fully coordinated clone squad willingly working against the Republic is pretty rare, making Cole’s team a more unique and exciting foil of rival soldiers compared to Clone Force 99.

By the issue’s end, Cole and his men unleashed a rancor on Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair, who barely escaped by deliberately shooting themselves out into the vacuum of space (and subsequently rescued by Tech in their own ship). Now, it looks as though the hunt is on between Clone Force 99 and their new rivals, a very exciting start for a brand-new Star Wars story.

Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories – The Bad Batch: Rogue Agents #1 is on sale now from Dark Horse Comics.
