An investigation has been launched after a river in Wales has been polluted. The Taff Bargoed and its tributaries near Nelson, Caerphilly have been affected after a slurry spill was identified in the water after it was discoloured.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) were made aware of the pollution and it has been investigated and identified as a slurry spill by officers. Finding the source of the pollution, the NRW has stopped it from contiuing to pollute the water.

The water will remain discoloured for sometime but it is expected to clear over time.

A spokesperson for NRW said: “We’re aware of recent pollution affecting the Taff Bargoed and its tributaries near Nelson, Caerphilly.

“Our officers investigated and identified the source as a slurry spill. The source of the pollution has now been stopped and the operator has made efforts to contain the pollution.

“You may notice some discoloured water along a stretch of the river, but this is expected to clear over time.

“Thank you to everyone who reported this to our incident line – your reports help us respond quickly.”
