One of the stars of Twilight wants to help remake the hugely popular vampire film franchise. After author Stephenie Meyer published the book series, Summit Entertainment adapted the story for the big screen, with Kristen Stewart cast as protagonist Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen.

It’s been more than 13 years since the final movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, was released in theaters, and Stewart admitted to ET that she is interested in helping reboot Twilight now that she’s directed her first full-length film, The Chronology of Water.

At the Palm Springs International Film Festival Creative Impact Awards, Stewart imagined what it would be like to remake Twilight but with a “huge budget” and a “bunch of love and support.” The actress-turned-director then got more confident about the idea and exclaimed, “Sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

“Imagine if we had a huge budget and a bunch of love and support. I don’t know…I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

Stewart doesn’t want to take away from the contributions of original directors Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz, David Slade, and Bill Condon because she loves what they brought to the series.

“They were so themselves and weird and kind of squirrelly,” she said, adding that every director was “present” and committed to bringing Twilight to life, even though “they didn’t really know what they were yet, before they blew up.”

“I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies. They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.”

Even though Stewart had starred in other movies like Panic Room and Speak, it was Twilight that catapulted her career to new heights.

Across five Twilight Saga movies that were released from 2008 to 2012, the vampire franchise grossed more than $3.3 billion at the box office. Critics weren’t as receptive as fans were, with the films’ Rotten Tomatoes scores ranging from 26% to 49%.

Stewart went on to star in movies like The Runaways, Snow White and the Huntsman, Charlie’s Angels, and Spencer (which earned her an Oscar nomination). She’s also a director now. After directing music videos and shorts, she helmed the full-length film The Chronology of Water in 2025.

Twilight also featured breakout roles for other cast members, including Pattinson, Taylor Lautner ,and Anna Kendrick.

As diehard fans know, the Twilight franchise isn’t over yet. In 2020, Meyer published Midnight Sun, which reimagined the first book from Edward’s point of view. This was a project in the works for many years, which included a scandal when several chapters from the manuscript leaked.

Four years later, Netlix announced that it would be adapting Midnight Sun as an animated TV show, with Sinead Daly, Meyer, Meghan Hibbett, Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Erik Feig, Samie Kim Falvey, and Emily Wissink as executive producers, and Daly as the writer.

It’s unclear how far along in the production process the show is at right now, but it’s possible Stewart could direct an episode if she were that interested in diving back into the vampire story.

Considering the TV show will depict a version of the first Twilight book, a live-action reboot would conflict with the current adaptation plans. If the Midnight Sun series proves successful, then the other books might get adapted too. Meyer has indicated she plans to write sequels, which would give Lionsgate Television the blueprint to continue the TV show.

While it doesn’t seem like the Twilight movies will get remade for the big screen anytime soon, at least the studio knows that Stewart wants to sign on as the director should the opportunity arise years from now.
