'This is a monster': Eerie video of prehistoric deep-sea creature has people swearing off the oceanDeep-sea footage of what appears to be a prehistoric creature has emerged online and made many fear a heart attack or worse. There was an era of horror and thriller cinema where animals like alligators and sharks attacking and killing humans had people swearing off the waters and islands. It still has many turning off the TV and hiding under the blankets when even the photo of an alligator appears on the screen. Sharks, well, they have vowed to never venture that deep in the ocean, ever. In many, these movies instilled a deep fear of creatures and deep waters. With years of exploration and research, humans have been able to figure out what really lies under the water. But it seems there are waves that we have yet to feel and uncover. Deep-sea footage of what appears to be a prehistoric creature has emerged online and made many fear a heart attack or worse. Know all about this here!

The mysteries of the deep sea

In February 2025, the world was obsessed with an adorable video of a ‘black sea monster’ that turned out to be a deep-sea humpback anglerfish. Sightings of dolphins and other unique creatures are always enough for the algorithm to rank and people to fawn over. But as cute and adorable the sea creatures might seem on the surface, the depth reveals the horrific reality of the beings of the aquatic world. A video shared by a YouTube channel ‘OceanX‘ has resurfaced on the internet. The viral video begins with an unclear scene where giant clouds of sand are being thrown up from the sea floor as the creature struggles to rise up. As the dust gradually clears up, a massive and dangerous shark head becomes visible with its jaw openly visible to the submarine where the video is being recorded from. The creature glides smoothly past the window of the submarine. Onlookers can be overheard saying ‘this is a monster’ in a much calmer pitch than any other human looking at the enormous shark would. They joke it’s ‘going to eat the gun’ with it being ‘bigger than this sub is long’.

Netizens react to the terrifying video

Social media users in the comments section of the video couldn’t help but share their horror over the sight of the terrifying creature. “If not the size, this shark’s eye alone would have given me a straight heart attack,” wrote one. “There are things deep in the oceans that nightmares are made of,” added another.”She looked straight at you guys and made direct eye contact-a chilling sense of a wicked, otherly intelligence. Never ever seen anything like that. Incredible footage!!! Thank you for sharing,” wrote an enamoured viewer. “It’s simply insane to think such creatures exist in such completely isolated parts of our planet. Really makes you wonder what other things are out there” pondered another. “I imagine this is how entertained aliens sound when they’re observing us from their ship,” quipped a user.

Who is the creature?

As per the channel description, OceanX is a non-profit on a mission to ‘unlock the ocean’s sustainable potential’. The video was captured during a trip planned by the Cape Eleuthera Institute as they attempted and successfully managed to put a satellite tag on the shark. They stated that their objective was the deep-sea shark, the bluntnose sixgill, an ‘ancient species that predates most dinosaurs and is a dominant predator of the deep sea ecosystem’. The name of the shark originated from its bluntly pointed nose and six gill slits. They have six saw-like teeth on each side of the lower jaw and nine smaller teeth on each side of the upper jaw. They can grow to be up to 20ft long and weigh in at around 500kg, with bigger specimens tipping the scales at 1,000kg.It seems surface swimming is better for those not so enamoured with losing their life in the deep sea.
