Jason Mills, the rapper, singer, producer known as IDK, is releasing a new mixtape at the end of the month titled E.T.D.S. – Even The Devil Smiles. Today he’s shared a preview of the new project via the single “LiFE 4 A LiFE” featuring Pusha T with arrangement by Kaytranada. It follows last year’s posthumous-DMX-featuring lead single “START TO FINISH,” which was produced by Kaytranada. IDK worked with Kaytranada on 2022’s “Taco” and toured with Pusha T that same year in support of It’s Almost Dry.
In a press release, Mills shared that “everything aligned naturally” for the collab with Pusha. He made “LiFE 4 A LiFE” with the Clipse rapper in mind and sent it to him immediately. “He told me he was in, and I let it live without pressure,” Mills said. “A few months later, right before he released the Clipse album Let God Sort Em Out, he called me. After the call, he sent me a photo of his handwritten verse, then asked for my email and where to send it.”
Mills continued on the track’s meaning:
‘LiFE 4 A LiFE’ speaks to a way of thinking shaped by survival, retaliation, and inherited codes, not to justify it, but to illuminate it. I’m observing a mindset, not endorsing it, and showing that perspective and growth are possible even for those shaped by the harshest environments. The goal is awareness, empathy, and the belief that more people can learn to see beyond that cycle.
