A fire that broke out at the Nissan Technical Centre on Cranfield University Technology Park has been extinguished.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said multiple appliances attended the blaze late on Friday afternoon.
Crews managed to put it out by Saturday morning, prompting an investigation by the fire service, police and the vehicle company into what happened.
A Nissan spokesperson said on Friday: “All employees that were on site were safely evacuated and we will work with the fire service to understand the cause of the incident.”
Nissan Technical Centre Europe is one of the company’s development centres where vehicle testing and engineering is carried out.
Crews remained at the site overnight and are due to reinspect the area throughout Saturday.
Witnesses had reported seeing a large cloud of smoke, and people were advised to avoid the area and keep their windows and doors closed while the fire was tackled.
