Upcoming Okanagan aircraft maintenance school under consideration

A proposed aircraft maintenance school is one step closer to being realized, as the City of Kelowna received a development permit application for the project.

To be located at 6100 Lapointe Dr., the proposed OCAC Training Facility for Okangan College would be a “direct extension” of the KF Aerospace Centre of Excellence.

The proposed project would include a large-span aircraft hanger for servicing and training as well as a two-storey building for learning and administration.

“This deliberate contrast allows the hangar to remain visually recessive and functional, while the academic building establishes a strong civic presence at the campus edge,” the application reads.

The hanger would be a 20,600 square feet, while the first and second floor of the academic building would total to 21,400 square feet.

The buildings’ exterior will be constructed using aluminum composite metal panels, wood grain cladding around the entrance and high performance glazing glass around the entrance, stairwell and community spaces.

In the proposal, the architects state that the project will be built with accessibility in mind, with accessible parking, entrances and vertical circulation.

The designing company is MQN Architects. More information about the project can be found at www.kelowna.ca/homes-building/property-development/current-developments.
