Apple TV has officially pulled the plug on The Last Frontier, ending the icy crime thriller after just one season — but here’s the twist no one expected: The show is still climbing streaming charts. The Alaska-set drama quietly premiered on Apple TV back in October, positioned as a gritty, survival-forward crime series with clear appeal to viewers still chasing that Yellowstone-shaped hole. Despite the streamer deciding not to move forward with Season 2 following a mixed critical response and modest early buzz, audiences seem to be finding the show after the fact — and sticking with it.

The series starred Jason Clarke as Frank Remnick, a solitary U.S. Marshal responsible for policing one of the most remote and unforgiving stretches of Alaska. That isolation becomes a liability when a prison transport plane crashes deep in the wilderness, unleashing dozens of dangerous inmates into the surrounding terrain. As Remnick races to protect the nearby town, it becomes increasingly clear that the crash may not have been an accident at all. Instead, it looks like the first move in a carefully orchestrated plan — one that turns the frozen landscape into a chessboard and Remnick into a reluctant pawn.

Is ‘The Last Frontier’ Worth Watching?

Collider’s review of the series stated that The Last Frontier was a gripping and smartly constructed thriller that stood out in a crowded genre by constantly evolving its story and stakes. Set against the unforgiving isolation of Alaska, the series followed U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick as he hunted a rogue CIA asset whose escape exposed layers of institutional deceit. The review praised the show’s steady stream of twists, refusal to lean on predictable tropes, and its morally murky view of government power. Clarke was highlighted as the series’ anchor, delivering a grounded, compelling performance that gave the manhunt real emotional weight:

“Overall, Apple TV+’s The Last Frontier is a solidly conceived and executed thriller. Every aspect of it continually evolves, from the layered narrative to each major character to our understanding of the massive organizations that operate in the shadows. Clarke delivers a top-shelf performance as an unyielding U.S. Marshal, and [Haley] Bennett is memorable as an international woman of mystery. Between these ever-changing elements and clever sequences that successfully wield the setting’s environmental bleakness, it’s a series that never settles for predictable storytelling.”

The Last Frontier is streaming now on Apple TV.
