The innovative recycled multi use games area (MUGA) at Hangleton Park has been officially opened by city Mayor Amanda Grimshaw.

The pitch was re-located from Moulsecoomb last year, completing one of the council’s most innovative recycling projects.

Joined by fellow ward councillors Faiza Baghoth and John Hewitt, Councillor Grimshaw cut the ribbon to declare the pitch open for business.

Fabulous!

“It was a pleasure to officially open this fabulous new facility and see such great work in action,” she said.

“I’d like to congratulate our sports facilities team for coming up with such a brilliant idea and showing that, just how much can be recycled when we put our minds to it!”

The  ‘nearly new’ pitch removed from Moulsecoomb to make way for a new facility, being built as part of the housing and hub development.

Following installation of the recycled steel structure at Hangleton Park, new tarmac was laid and lines painted for football and basketball, saving the council thousands of pounds.
