A teenage dream becomes a rock star’s nightmare in Sweetness, which looks like a modern riff on Misery through a Gen Z lens.

The psychological thriller hits Digital February 13 via Saban Films. Watch the trailer below.

When a superfan learns that her rock star idol is spiraling into addiction, she makes it her mission to save him, whether he wants her help or not. But when her desperate plan spirals out of control, she kidnaps him in a delusional attempt to “fix” him.

What begins as compassion turns into captivity, as she locks him away in the name of love.

Kate Hallett (Women Talking) and Herman Tømmeraas (“Ragnarok”) star with Aya Furukawa (“The Midnight Club”), Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds), Steven Ogg (“The Walking Dead”), and Amanda Brugel (Jason X).

Juno Award-winning Canadian writer-director Emma Higgins makes her feature debut. Taj Critchlow (40 Acres) and Daniel Quinn produce.

Executive producers include Amos Adetuyi, Will Clarke, Karena Evans, Ben Farella, Hazem Imam, Justin Kelly, Andy Mayson, Michael O’Leary, Fuliane Petikyan, Dean Rosen, Mike Runagall, Jeremy Smith, and Olivia Swayze.

Sweetness premiered at SXSW last year and went on to play the Fantasia International Film Festival.

It’s rated R for “violence/bloody mages, drug content, language, and some sexual references.”
