The worst ideas produced by the universities emanate from the humanities and social sciences, among them boycotts of Israeli scholars and institutions. Now that the federal government has held colleges to account, the slashing of funding to the sciences seems like collateral damage in an effort to remedy problems of other departments. But that isn’t quite right. First, because science faculty—especially those who took administrative positions—must bear some responsibility for the direction of their institutions. And second, because the rot has spread to their departments as well.Â
