Certain bars of soap have been recalled in Canada due to a “chemical hazard,” officials say.
Consumers are being advised to “immediately stop using” them.
“Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has determined that the recalled products contain methyl eugenol above the maximum concentration outlined in the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist,” Health Canada said in a notice published Wednesday.
“Methyl eugenol is prohibited as a pure ingredient on the Hotlist due to its potential for carcinogenicity but is permitted as a naturally occurring component in botanical extracts with specific limits depending on the product type.”
The affected products are Lake of the Woods Sunrise Soap Co. – Shades of Grey Bars of Soap, the notice said.
Sizes of 16 g, 67 g, and 135 g are affected.
They were sold from January 2019 to January of this year.
The company said that around 400 units were sold in Canada.
Consumers should not use the bars of soap, throw them out, and contact Lake of the Woods Sunrise Soap Co. for a replacement, Health Canada said.
They can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 1-807-464-0234.
Individuals can also visit their store, which is in Kenora, Ontario.
