It’s winning time for Teyana Taylor. The singer, actress and creative force is riding high from her Best Supporting Actress win at the Golden Globes for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another. She’s vying for a few more awards this season, but perhaps the one that means the most to her is her first-ever GRAMMY nomination. Teyana’s epic Escape Room is up for Best R&B Album, and she showed exactly why with a stunning performance of the duet “Hard Part” with Lucky Daye on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Teyana and Lucky brought their vocals and the drama to Jimmy Fallon’s stage. The two stars sat across from each other in leather accent chairs while the band was in shadow at the rear of the stage, where a large clock hung on the wall. Teyana and Lucky took turns airing their grievances in the lyrics filled with the pain and passion of a couple whose love has lost its shine.
They started the performance face-to-face before the platforms they were situated on rotated their chairs toward the audience. The platforms rotated once more, bringing them full circle and back face-to-face. Lucky took this as his opportunity to get out of his chair to kneel at Teyana’s feet as they harmonized on the outro to a beautiful interpolation of the bridge from Lauryn Hill and D’Angelo’s “Nothing Even Matters.”
Though we have to wait until Sunday, February 1st to find out if Teyana Taylor will add a GRAMMY to her trophy case, watch her award-worthy performance with Lucky Daye on repeat until then. Keep scrolling to view Tey’s interview with Fallon, where she spilled a little tea about the upcoming Escape Room deluxe edition, discussed her next role in the movie The Rip (co-starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) and showed a teaser of the flick, which hits Netflix on Friday, January 16th.
