Marvel Comics gives fans a glimpse at the future of the X-Men, and it is going to have an impact that ripples all the way back to the present.

Marvel Comics has officially unveiled the final chapters for each series caught up in the events of the Age of Revelation. Set to begin with the release of X-Men: Age of Revelation #1 from writer Jed MacKay and artist Ryan Stegman, the Age of Revelation event will play out in the pages of sixteen new three-issue limited series, each of which is set to come to a close in December ahead of the release of X-Men: Age of Revelation Finale #1. While the finale issue will indeed finish off the future-set storyline, it will also set up how its events will eventually come to pass, as well as how the present of the Marvel Universe will be shaped by their sheer inevitability. Readers can check out the main covers for the final issue of each series, as well as the cover for X-Men: Age of Revelation Finale #1 in the image gallery down below.

First teased back in July, Marvel Comics’ Age of Revelation is set to bring readers an entire decade into the future for an epic tale revolving around the efforts of none other than Doug Bradley, formerly known as the mutant hero Cypher, who not all that long ago was transformed into the hulking Revelation. Imbued with the might of Apocalypse himself, Revelation stands as the living embodiment of Apocalypse’s mission. From what readers have learned so far, the Age of Revelation will find the former mutant hero ruling over his own swathe of the planet that he claimed as his own Revelation Territories, which will also serve as one of the battlegrounds for the confrontations yet to come.

Executive Editor and Conductor of X for Marvel Comics Tom Brevoort explained the impact that the Age of Revelation will have on the wider Marvel Universe, confirming that “Going into January and beyond, we’re kind of in the shadow of tomorrow, where the events going forward will all kind of live in the umbra of these events that we have just witnessed. We’ve just seen things that have happened to all these characters 10 years down the line.” Brevoort added, “As far as we’re approaching this, these are all legitimate futures. This isn’t a What If world. These things exist, as far as even the present-day characters are concerned. So, you’ll see a certain amount of reflectivity in what happens.”

In July, writer Jed MacKay discussed his role in crafting the Age of Revelation as a whole, as well as the scope of the new vision of the Marvel Universe that will emerge from it. “I’m extremely excited to be at the center of this event,” MacKay said at the time. “We’re traveling to the alien future of the Age of Revelation, where the stories unfolding in the Revelation Territories and beyond will decide whether this is the dawn of a new world, or the end of one. We’ve been exploring a whole world, and it’s been really exciting to see other creators make corners of it their own!”

All Age of Revelation finale titles will hit stores in December.
