Vision launches the Vision SC 48 I25 wheelset as a product that straddles categories. It’s the kind of thing that’s easy to overlook as we consider what’s in our list of bike component reviews but it’s also going to make rear world sense for a lot of people. Simply said, the Vision SC 48 I25 wheelset does a lot.

The Vision SC 48 I25 balances competing interests

At this point it’s feels a bit unnecessary to explain this but, yes, aero does matter for gravel. It might not matter for every person or situation but there is a place for moving fast on unpaved roads and aero helps make that just a bit easier. There is some nuance when considering road vs gravel aero design though.

As you move to a wider tire, the fastest shape changes. While a narrower, deeper, shape is ultimately the absolute fastest design at higher speeds something shorter makes the best of a larger, blunter, leading edge. To that end, the Vision SC 48 I25 wheelset landed on a 48mm depth.

Part of that equation is the advantages that come along with a little bit shorter profile even without a wider tire. Keeping to a little less depth means less material and that means lighter weight and lower price. At the same time a little less depth also means a more stable wheel in high winds.

The Vision SC 48 I25 wheelset isn’t only a gravel play though and you can see that in the chosen 25mm (hooked) internal width. Yes there was a time when a 25mm internal width was the standard for gravel wheels but that’s past us at this point. Today, 25mm internal width covers not only gravel tires in the 40-49mm width but also modern road tires in the 30-39mm range.

Put everything together and you can either consider this wheel a choice for doing whatever comes your way or you can think of it as ideal for a tire around 35mm that lets you move on and off pavement without thinking about it.

Price matters too

The actual weight of the Vision SC 48 I25 wheelset is missing from the discussion above because it needed some context. This is a 1590 gram wheelset and that’s nothing special in 2025, until you look at the price.

With a suggested retail of 1349,00 € / $1299 / £ 1149,99 the weight makes a lot more sense. You can find lighter and you can find cheaper but just as Vision is balancing competing interestes when it comes to the use case, the brand is balancing competing interests for price. Compared to the competition from Swiss Side, Hunt, DT Swiss, and Zipp you are getting a lot of versatility and reasonable pricing from Vision.

Vision SC 48 I25 details and availability

Some of this has already been discussed but the latest Vision wheels are using a 48mm depth paired with a 25mm internal width and a hooked bead. Spokes are set up in a 2:1 cross pattern using 24 straight pull bladed spokes. At the center of the wheel is the V-200 hub which Vision shares has “an improved pawl system, updated design without bearing preload adjustment but with press-fit end caps, to improve reliability and more maintenance-friendly.”

As expected, this is a tubeless ready wheel with a centerlock disc rotor design and freehub options for Shimano, XDR, or Campagnolo.
