In Israel last year, 252 Arab citizens were murdered, nearly 10-percent more than in 2024. Most were killed by other Arabs. This statistic is part of a larger, ongoing increase in violence that doesn’t fit easily into any of the usual narratives about Israel. Some of this violence is what authorities call “nationalist,” i.e., connected somehow to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but most is not. Arabs have gathered to protest because they want the police to crack down harder on criminal behavior. And they have a point.
