MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin men’s track and field sophomore Patrick Hilby was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week following an 800-meter meet record at the Penn Elite, the conference announced on Wednesday. It’s the sophomore’s first Big Ten honor of his career.

Hilby’s historic showing saw him win the the event in 1 minute, 47.36 seconds, to break the Penn Elite meet record. The time ranks No. 2 on Wisconsin’s indoor all-time list in the event. The Illinois native also had a strong relay performance, finishing fourth in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:10.83.

The honor caps a productive early indoor season for Hilby. Earlier this year, he helped Wisconsin win the distance medley relay at the Indiana Invitational, clocking 9:38.97, and placed third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:11.57. He opened the season with a sixth-place finish in the mile at 4:01.53 during the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
