When Marvel Studios unveiled the official Avengers: Doomsday cast list, the return of some original X-Men franchise stars drew the most excitement. Yet, not everyone is going to be present there, leaving Avengers: Secret Wars as potentially the last time the former franchise stars can reprise their roles before the Marvel Cinematic Universe resets the multiverse.

Of the missing characters in Avengers: Doomsday, Halle Berry’s Storm and Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey are two of the biggest (with it widely believed Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will appear despite not being officially announced). With Janssen’s return reportedly also happening, Berry is the biggest omission.

For her part, she’s continued to debunk reports of Storm’s return in Doomsday. But that doesn’t mean she’s never coming back. In fact, the actress has now made as promising of a tease that her weather-controlling mutant will be seen again and in the not-too-distant future.

After spending so much time and energy deflecting questions about not being in Doomsday, it was expected that Berry would continue that line of answering, whether she is ultimately in the upcoming MCU movie or not. But in a recent interview with Screen Rant’s Todd Gilchrist to promote her new film, Crime 101, Berry’s response to Storm’s Doomsday absence took a different turn.

She said she loved the support from fans who want her to return and expressed how proud she is to have played the character previously. Berry then said, “And while I’m sad I won’t be in Doomsday this round, there are other rounds. And I would do that in a heartbeat.”

Her comments stop short of directly confirming anything, but she also goes out of her way to hint that Doomsday isn’t her only chance to come back. It’s hard to hear that and not think she knows something about brewing plans to see her as Storm again.

This has brought some renewed speculation that she could take part in Doomsday reshoots as they happen during this year, as that is the next “round” of shooting Marvel has to do. But with her reiterating she’s not in that film, it put all eyes on Secret Wars as being where she reprises her iconic role.

Halle Berry’s Storm Returning In Avengers: Secret Wars Makes Sense

The odds of Storm being in Secret Wars always seemed high. With Marvel bringing back most of the original X-Men cast members in Doomsday, it’d be wildly disappointing if Berry never got the same opportunity as her other major co-stars.

After all, if the Multiverse Saga is going to celebrate the entire history of Marvel movies and close those stories for good, they have to do it right. Leaving out someone as important to the original X-Men franchise like Berry wouldn’t be smart, especially when she’s eager to do so and there’s so much support from fans for it to happen.

It’d even potentially position Storm as one of the game-changing new forces in Secret Wars and the battle against Doctor Doom’s plan. Her absence in Doomsday could then lead to her return having an even bigger impact. And with these latest comments, I suspect she’s already having conversations with Marvel about Storm’s return in Avengers: Secret Wars.
