Critics have nothing but praise for Hugh Laurie’s Apple TV thriller series set in Iran.
Tehran season 3 premiered on streaming back on January 9, and it’s now been given an official Rotten Tomatoes score, posting a perfect 100% on a small sampling of just six reviews.
Streaming audiences already gave the show their own seal-of-approval by hoisting Tehran to the #1 position on Apple TV’s worldwide chart in the wake of its premiere, pushing the buzzworthy Pluribus out of the number one spot.
Season 3’s 100% RT score beefs up the show’s overall 92% Tomatometer number, while the new season’s 79% audience score somewhat lowers the show’s overall 84% Popcornmeter rating.
Critics call Tehran season 3 thrilling, tense and timely, praising the actors for selling the story even on the occasions when its twists and turns don’t perfectly land. Reviewers also praise the show’s tight pacing, and show appreciation for its flawed protagonist, whose failures are as integral to the story as her successes.
ScreenRant considered Tehran’s place within season 3 star Laurie’s entire TV and movie filmography, saying of the thriller series back in April 2025, “Gripping from start to finish, Tehran is a solid series within Apple TV+’s impressive library of titles, though it sometimes falls short of being really great, while exploring both the personal and professional lives of its characters to great effect.”
Niv Sultan headlines Tehran as Mossad agent Tamar Rabinyan, with Laurie joining season 3 as nuclear inspector Eric Peterson. Glenn Close added her own star power to season 2.
When Sultan spoke to ScreenRant about Tehran back in September 2020, the star noted her pleasure at being able to show a different side of Iran, a nation so often depicted in Western media as strife-ridden and politically antagonistic.
“This is the first time that we were showing the different side of Iran; the beauty of Iran and the magic of Iran. Not just, again and again, the conflict and the political side.”
Tehran has already been renewed for season 4. Meanwhile, season 3, episode 5 gets set to premiere on Apple TV February 6, with the finale coming February 13.
