Following the box office success of 2023’s Fast X, Vin Diesel has previously revealed that a sequel film is eyeing a 2027 release date, but fan-favorite star Jason Momoa has a disappointing update for fans. He recently revealed whether he will return for Fast & Furious 11.

Appearing on ThePlaylist’s Bingeworthy Podcast, Momoa revealed that he sadly hasn’t heard anything about the new Fast & Furious film. “I would love to come back and play, man,” he said. He went on to talk about his character, Dante Reyes. Introduced in Fast X, Dante is the son of drug lord Hernan Reyes who sought out revenge against Dom (Diesel) and his crew for the death of his father in 2011’s Fast Five.

The character was set up to play a larger role going forward, especially in the franchise’s overarching story with Dom at the center. Momoa reflected on how fans grew to love his scene-stealing role, but lamented that he hadn’t gotten a script for the project at this time. “People all over the world love that character…it’s crazy,” he said. “But I got no script, so not that soon.”

While far from the best news for Fast & Furious fans, Momoa’s update makes it clear he’s willing to return for the upcoming installment. Considering how important his character is and how much fans loved Dante, it’s likely that he will get on board for the project in the near future. The Fast X sequel has faced a few setbacks since originally being announced in 2023 — and some of the rumors surrounding it have hinted that the eleventh film might head back to the franchise’s roots, potentially introducing a different antagonist instead of Dante.

Diesel has previously confirmed that the eleventh film will be the final installment in the franchise, and earlier this year he revealed that it had been delayed until April 2027. He also confirmed that the sequel will “go back to the roots of the franchise”, which could spell trouble for Momoa’s character. For now, it remains to be seen where Fast & Furious 11 will end up, but one thing’s for sure — fans loved Momoa’s inclusion in the franchise, no matter how short-lived it may be.

Momoa’s Latest Project is a Gritty, Game of Thrones-Style Historical Drama

Whether it’s Fast X or Game of Thrones, Momoa is no stranger to playing intense roles that are mentally and physically demanding. His most recent project, Chief of War, aired its finale episode on Sept. 19, and is a brutal historical drama that sees Momoa starring as Ka’iana, a warrior chief of the Hawaiaan Island of Kaua’i who travels outside the islands, returns home, and surprisingly, rebels against the unification of Hawaii.

Momoa is Hawaiian, and he spoke about his heritage and the challenges he faced while working on Chief of War. “I am Kanaka Maoli, and it was the hardest language work I’ve ever done,” he shared. “There are many different dialects per island. I’m just excited to get a little Hawai’i out there. We kicked down the door so we can tell more.” Chief of War is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Fast X is now streaming on Starz.
