Cory Thiesse: “It’s a big day for women’s curling in the United States”

Team USA, meanwhile, were proud of their silver medal despite their agonising defeat in the final.

It was only the third Olympic curling medal the U.S. have won and comes 20 years after their first at the previous Games in Italy, Turin 2006, when they claimed men’s team bronze.

“We have come a long way in four years, from first becoming teammates,” said Dropkin. “If you had told us four years ago that we’d be Olympic silver medallists, we’d be stoked.

“It’s a full-circle moment, 20 years later to be in Italy, where those ‘06 moments were, to be able to represent the United States and to be playing for medals.

“We would have loved to come home with a gold medal, but I’m just so proud of us. It’s a dream come true.”

With her silver, Thiesse also becomes the first female U.S. curler to win an Olympic medal.

“It’s been a long time coming,” she added. “Being on the podium is huge and a big day for women’s curling in the United States.

“I’m really proud and honoured to be standing up there and to use this to move women’s curling in the U.S. forward.”
