At a Knesset Education, Culture and Sports Committee session on remembering and commemorating the Oct. 7 massacre, a representative from the Prime Minister’s Office requested removing the word ‘massacre’ from the bill’s title. His request sparked outrage among bereaved family members who attended the session. According to the representative, Yoel Elbaz, ‘There wasn’t only a massacre, there was also a massacre, and this word appears later in the proposed text.’ Hila Avir, whose brother Lotan was murdered at the Nova music festival, said: ‘It makes no sense for the PM’s office to manage the event when it’s the one preventing the investigation. Are you letting the fox guard the henhouse? We’ve waited two and a half years and we’ll wait a bit longer, until there’s a worthy law that suits everyone.’
