The Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s most hotly-anticipated series is bringing back two villains fans thought were both long since dead and gone.

Per The Direct, the upcoming Vision Quest series starring Paul Bettany is officially anticipated to mark the return of two previously “deceased” MCU villains. Among these is none other than Ultron, previously portrayed by James Spader, who seemingly met his end back in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Although various multiversal variants of Ultron have been seen in productions such as 2021’s What If…?, his impending return in Vision Quest will mark the primary Ultron’s first appearance in the MCU in over ten years.

Also set to return to the MCU in Vision Quest is Faran Tahir in a reprisal of his role of Raza. Rahir first appeared in the MCU at its outset in 2008’s Iron Man, during which he served as the leader of the sect of the Ten Rings who kidnapped Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and ultimately kicked off his career as Iron Man. Shortly after it is revealed that Jeff Bridges’ Obadiah Stane has been working with the Ten Rings against Stark, the future Iron Monger kills Raza in cold blood for failing to have ended Tony’s life during their previous encounter. While Ultron could easily have uploaded his consciousness to some secret location and bided his time before returning in Vision Quest, it isn’t nearly as clear how Raza will be coming back to life in the series if the rumor is true.

Vision Quest will serve as the second follow-up to 2021’s WandaVision after 2024’s Agatha All Along. The series will see Paul Bettany step back into the role of Vision, the former Avenger and superpowered android who lost his life in the fight against Thanos during 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War before being resurrected in WandaVision. Vision Quest will also include appearances by Todd Stashwick as the superpowered bounty hunter known as Paladin, T’Nia Mollica as the vengeful android known as Jocasta, Emily Hampshire as the voice of AI E.D.I.T.H., Orla Brady as the voice of AI F.R.I.D.A.Y., and Mary McDonnell in a still undisclosed role.

What Other Iconic Marvel Character Will Be Returning in Vision Quest?

It was reported that Vision and Wanda’s other son, Tommy Maximoff, would be making his return in Vision Quest. The character was first seen in WandaVision, which revealed both Tommy and his brother Billy to be little more than manifestations of Wanda’s own powers. Although the two were effectively erased from existence at the end of WandaVision, it was also made clear that their spirits and consciousnesses still existed somewhere out in the universe. In Agatha All Along, it was revealed that Billy’s spirit transferred itself into the body of the young William Kaplan just moments after the latter’s demise, effectively giving the former another shot at life in a whole new form. Presumably, Tommy will also be making such a leap in Vision Quest, which could very well pave the way for him to take on his speedster alter-ego from the comics — Speed.

Vision Quest is currently expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2026.
