We reached the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a 3-0 win at home to Bristol City on Sunday.
Kim Little opened the scoring at Mangata Developments Stadium in Borehamwood and Victoria Pelova doubled our lead in the second half, before an own goal from the Robins put the result beyond doubt.
FIRST HALF
Alessia Russo was first to go for goal from distance with power but struck straight at Lauren Brzykcy, before a Bristol City corner at the other end came to Camila Saez to head towards goal but, it was easy pickings for Anneke Borbe.
Esther Morgan played a good ball over the top for Emily Syme to run onto but her first-time effort flew wide of the bottom right.
Olivia Smith’s cross came out to Mariona Caldentey, who lifted it just over the top left, and Caitlin Foord drove into the 18-yard box from the left before seeing her effort pushed past the post by Brzykcy as we began to put on the pressure.
That continued as Smith fired goalwards on the volley after the ball came out to her from a Katie McCabe corner, but it was too central to trouble the goalkeeper.
Brzykcy wasn’t able to stop our next attempt though, as a McCabe free-kick wasn’t dealt with and Little was in the right place to knock it across the line for 1-0.
Smith then set up Chloe Kelly and she smashed the ball just wide of the top left, before an effort from Emily Fox met a similar fate.
SECOND HALF
We made one change at the break with Pelova coming on for Mariona.
There was a great opportunity to double our lead early in the second half as Foord twised and turned and was fouled inside the penalty area for a spot kick, but Russo saw her effort saved from the penalty spot.
Smith was then forced off with injury following a clash of heads, replaced by Frida Maanum.
It was 2-0 in the 63rd minute as the ball came out to Pelova from Maanum, and the former saw her shot deflected into the back of the net.
Foord then flicked over the bar from a McCabe corner as we pursuid a third, and that’s exactly what we found moments later as Fox drifted inside to Maanum and her cross was touched across the line by Katie Robinson 3-0.
Our next substitutions came in the 71st minute with Smilla Holmberg and Taylor Hinds replacing Kelly and McCabe.
It was almost 4-0 immediately as a cross from the right reached Foord at the far post and she shifted the ball onto her left foot before seeing her shot saved at the near post.
We made one more changer with eight minutes left on the clock as Stina Blackstenius came on for Russo.
Hinds then volleyed wide from a Holmberg corner in the game’s dying embers, before Laia Codina replaced Steph Catley.
14 minutes were added on at the end of the second half due to the lengthy stoppage in play for Smith’s injury.
There was an opportunity for a consolation for the away side when Lexi Lloyd-Smith charged through on goal on the counter-attack before shooting straight at Borbe, before Maanum smashed over the bar at the other end.
Blackstenius played a one-two with Little and crashed a shot onto the post in the 99th minute and the full-time whistle was blown on a solid performance.
