SPOILER WARNING

Speaking to reporters backstage, Wunmi Mosaku says she felt “it can’t be right” when she heard her name announced as the best supporting actress.

“I lost my breath and I couldn’t quite believe it,” she says.

When asked, as a mum and as a woman of colour, what this moment felt to be holding a Bafta, she says she “thought about that more as the film came out.”

“For me, seeing that response from the audience made me realise how lonely it felt, and all of a sudden these women were in my life who I’d never met and I felt a kinship to.”

She broke into tears as she saw Sinners win best original screenplay, and credited director Ryan Coogler: “He lets everyone know on the set that they’re so important, and we can’t do it without them.”
