Abu Dhabi, Feb. 23 (SANA) The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace on Sunday condemned remarks by the U.S. ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee in which he expressed support for Israeli territorial expansion, saying the comments run counter to international law and longstanding diplomatic principles.

Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, president of the council, said the ambassador’s statements could be seen as providing political backing for settlement activity. He added that such policies risk increasing regional tensions and undermining efforts to achieve a negotiated peace based on state sovereignty and the rights of peoples.

Earlier on Saturday, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Huckabee gave a statement supporting Israeli claims of a “biblical right” extending from the Nile to the Euphrates. The remarks sparked widespread Arab and Islamic condemnation.

The council called on the international community to oppose measures it said encourage territorial expansion or weaken international legal frameworks. It emphasized that a lasting peace must be grounded in justice, coexistence and respect for international law.
