According to a new report from Deadline, Fox has decided to bring back Best Medicine, its recent freshman medical television series, for a 12-episode second season set for 2026 – 2027. The series debuted to some strong numbers, and was said to be seen as essentially a lock for renewal, but now Fox has made the news official.
Best Medicine is based on the ITV series Doc Martin, originally created by Dominic Minghella and developed by Liz Tuccilo. The series follows the story of Dr. Martin Best, a doctor who moves from a prestigious hospital position in Boston to a private practice in the small town of Port Wenn, Maine. The series chronicles his life in the town treating patients and overcoming his own issues.
The series stars Josh Charles, Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Cree, and Annie Potts. Recurring stars from the first season include Stephen Spinella, Jason Veasey, Carter Shimp, John DiMaggio, Clea Lewis, Michael Potts, Didi Conn, Ben Lewis Doherty, Cindy De La Cruz, Martin Clunes, and the canine Wattson.
According to Deadline’s report on the show’s renewal, Best Medicine’s premiere had 12.6 million total multi-platform viewers, good for top two amongst the highest-rated drama debuts of this season. No official release date or information has been revealed for Season 2 of Best Medicine as of now.
