MAFS Australia fans have slammed a ‘red flag’ move as one groom refused a bride’s unusual request on their wedding day.

Tonight (March 9), a brand new series returned to E4 with 18 new singles looking for love. They will meet for the first time on their wedding day, at the altar, having been matched by experts, and it has already been off to an explosive start.

Meeting for the first time were Married At First Sight’s Alissa and David as their family and friends watched on. But it was Alissa’s request that had their guests stunned.

Fighting against her nerves, Alissa appeared to look to the crowd for support as her friend mouthed: “You can do it.”

Alissa, standing at the altar in front of her future husband David’ admitted: “I’m really really sorry. I don’t think I can marry you.”

A stunned David said: “I completely understand”, before Alissa joked: “Not until you get on one knee and propose to me first.”

After some back and to, David refused to get down on one knee. However, eventually, he decided to get down on one knee and fulfil her request, with David’s loved ones appearing to be unimpressed.

Speaking to the cameras, David could be heard saying it was a “red flag moment”, with fans at home agreeing.

Taking to X, one person said: “Wow tears and all??? Crazyyyy.” Another wrote: “I think she didn’t mean it to go this far but when she started it there was no way out … now she’s stuck in this no win situation……. So embarrassing.”

A third added: “And that is the first red flag .. David run now.” A fourth replied: “This… Is…. HORRENDOUS.”

A fifth slammed: “This is weird????”, as another agreed: “What kinda childish nonsense is this?”

One person added: “This is so weird, I’ve secondhand embarrassment.”

However, many viewers said they believed David and Alissa would be a “slow burn, but will work out”.

After the ceremony, David’s friends confessed to cameras they did not believe the two were compatible as they said their first impression of Alissa was that she was “gorgeous”, but “high maintenance”.

Guided by experts including Alessandra Rampolla and relationship pros John Aiken and Mel Schilling, the singles are matched by experts before they meet for the very first time at the altar.

After their wedding they discover if they are truly compatible as they put their relationship to the test and head off on their honeymoon before moving in together and eventually meeting family and friends once again.

This time around, the series has brought a brand new twist as ‘Revelations Week’ will be introduced for the first time this season – though viewers will have to tune in to find out exactly what that entails.

Married At First Sight Australia returns tomorrow at 7.30pm on E4.
